( 1883-1965)
There is a ten-year interval between the two works both entitled Olives (1935 – 1938, 1948). Angelos Theodoropoulos, who was particularly fond of the subject, had been concerned since 1930 with the depiction of the olive and the olive grove. By various techniques, woodcuts on upright or transverse wood, and later by means of copper engraving, he attempted to stress differing features on each occasion. To begin with, he was interested in light and strong contrasts, whereas later he insisted more on the description of individual details.
