With the wide-ranging education which Sophia Laskaridou (daughter of the pioneering pedagogue Aikaterini Christomanou) acquired both from her family environment and during the course of her studies in Munich and Paris, she produced an extensive oeuvre which reflects various influences from German Expressionism and post-Impressionist trends in France.

In Kaisariani Monastery, Laskaridou's apprenticeship in Munich is apparent in the spontaneous thick brush-stroke on a virtually monochrome colour range in shades of brown and ochre, while the rendering of the landscape with the broken-off tree-trunks in the foreground is reminiscent of the approach to composition of the Nabi artists of Paris.
