The exhibition Explore Messolonghi through Art was inaugurated on Saturday, 27 September 2014 by the Evangelos Averoff-Tossizza Foundation at the Averoff Gallery in Metsovo. It features art works made in 2005–2014 by 60 preeminent Greek artists on invitation by the Christos & Sophia Moschandreou Contemporary Art Gallery of Aitoloakarnania at Messolonghi.
This is a thematic exhibition of a great variety of materials, sizes and approaches, including oil paintings, watercolours, etchings, woodcuts, and terracotta and bronze sculptures, highlighting the wealth of historical and cultural heritage and tradition of the Holy City of Messolonghi.
An original idea of the Christos and Sophia Moschandreou Art Gallery, this exhibition was prepared with vision and commitment over a decade and embraced by renowned Greek artists who contributed their original works, drawing inspiration from the history, legends, memories and present-day reality of the Holy City of Messolonghi. Of particular interest is the way the artists capture the distinctive characteristics of the Messolonghi landscape, translating colours and images into contemporary artistic discourse, each in their own personal style.
Metsovo is the third stop of this mesmerising exhibition, after the Museum of the City of Athens – Vouros-Eftaxias Foundation last December and the Tripolis Municipal Gallery last March.
EXHIBITION DURATION: 28 September 2014 – 20 January 2015
