PROSALENTIS Spyridon (1830-1893) “The Peddler”

This painting must have been done during the artist`s lengthy stay in Venice, where he continued his studies after graduating from the painting school founded by his father, the sculptor Pavlos Prosalentis, in his native Corfu. `The Peddler` is one of his few paintings with genre content, since after his return to Athens in 1865 and permanent settling there in 1870, he devoted himself nearly exclusively to portraiture.
