PAPADIMITRIOU Efthymios (1985-1958) “Still Life with Fish”, 1933

Still Life with Fish (1933)

A painter and printmaker, essentially self-taught, Efthymios Papadimitriou initially emerged as a cartoonist in Athenian newspapers, but later devoted himself exclusively to printmaking. He moved away from realism into abstract formulations of cubist-type shapes, which are mainly encountered in his still lifes. He gradually did away with traditional engraving tools, to the point where he carved his woodcuts with a dull penknife.
