FLORA-KARAVIA Thalia (1871-1960) “Roman Aquaduct”

Roman Aquaduct

Thalia Flora-Karavia is one of Greece`s most noteworthy women painters. With her gentle, fine sensibility and extensive education, she created a series of paintings that display her intellectual and artistic skills. In `Roman Aqueduct` she bypassed the realistic, conservative approach to achieve an impressionistic rendering with strong, expressive colors and contrasts, in accordance with all that she learned in her studies in Munich. This painting must have been done during her many trips to Europe in the early 20th century, and she probably brought it with her to Italy sometime in 1906-1907.
