ASTERIADES Aginor (1989-1977) “Landscape with Trees”, 1924

Landscape with Trees (1924)

Aginor Asteriades was a student of Nikolaos Lytras at the Athens School of Fine Arts. Although his oeuvre was strongly bound to tradition, it was also innovative for Greece, since one can detect elements of Post-Impressionism that he indirectly picked up from the work of his colleagues. This painting is characterized by the articulation of the space into planes, an anti-naturalistic approach to color and a shallow pictorial space, which he achieved by placing the trees in the foreground.
