ECONOMOU Michael (1888-1933) “Fishing House on the Beach”

Fishing House on the Beach

One series of Michael Economou`s paintings show a passion for depicting seaside dwellings, which he rendered in soft tones. This was particularly characteristic of the paintings done in his final phase of artistic production, such as this one in the Averoff Museum, made during the period 1929-1930. In these paintings, the water, the sky and the atmosphere surrounding them are simply pretexts for the study of atmospheric transparency and reflections, concerns that dominate the artist`s work. The fishing house, bathed in light, is reflected in the tranquil water of the sea, while a differentiated palette distinguishes it from the rest of the landscape, which serves the perspective rendering.
