Description
The sculpture of Thomopoulos is marked by its transition from the models of classicism to a more impressionistic manner, but he always possessed the ability to oscillate between the two trends, as can be seen from the two works in the Evangelos Averoff Gallery. The austere full-frontal stature and the impassive facial features of the Kore bear the seal of the sculptor's classical education, while, by way of contrast, Satyr embodies his desire for experimentation and development, confirming the description of the artist as 'radical' and 'mercurial'.
