Description
This is a woodcut produced specially for the "Greek print-makers engraving on the subject of Macedonia' exhibition", which opened in Thessaloniki in 1992 and then toured cities of northern Greece. With Macedonia's Greek identity and the redefinition of its importance through modern works as a starting-point and a subject, the artists drew their material chiefly from the history of the region and from the picture of the landscape. Mary Schina's woodcut negotiates precisely this: she has created a work with symbolisms, combining the limpidity of the landscape with the presence of the ancient Greek element, thus stressing the power of memory.
