Description

A substructure of the wall-fitting Untitled, of 2002, as in most of his creations, is metal sheeting. Small, faultlessly positioned, sleek screws support, on the horizontal part of the sheet, with gross cuts into its outline, the processed photograph of a bridge, the blue tube, the car radiator, the melted plastics, the letter 'A' of an inscription. The stratigraphy of its planes, a basic feature of his compositions, is a discovery which shows the degree of investigation of his materials. Through the discovery of the 'alphabet of matter' he devises his 'strategies of objects', guiding our eye, on the one hand, and our thinking, on the other. The artist wishes to speak about the everyday, elevating it into poetry. In doing this, he relies on three points: the concept created by association by his 'vulgar', cheap, but highly charged materials, the joy of the creative process, and, above all, the disposition to create new forms, as he has assimilated the evolution of the art of the twentieth century in its passage from painting to relief and to the object, by way of a fathoming of matter.
Τhe work was created for the exhibition 'Sketching out Today, Tomorrow and Yesterday. Young Greek Artists: A tribute to Prefecture of Yiannena".' held at the Averoff Museum of Modern art, at Metsovo in 2002.
