STEFANOU Nikos (1933) “Eclipse”, 1994

Eclipse (1994)

In his work, Nikos Stefanou portrays the sentiments of his childhood in Athens, images that immediately embrace the gaze through a window, and the light and the sea of Kea, his beloved island. Obviously influenced by the theater space, where he worked since adolescence, he creates an image having a particular sense of depth that is created rather than existent. But, in contrast to what happens on stage, his objects are gently placed, as though suspended in a liquid, flowing atmosphere. Soft colors and everyday objects rendered with the spontaneity and innocence of the first glance create a painterly image that is oneiric, childlike and almost metaphysical.
