PANTAZIS Pericles (1849-1884) “At the Seashore”

At the Seashore

Gifted with imagination and ready to accept old and new influences alike in his work, Pantazis, in this painting, followed the lessons of the Flemish seascape painters. In the depiction of this scene of a beach outside Brussels, he used the compositional approach of these painters, dividing the picture plane into bands. The sky occupies the largest portion of the composition, offering an opportunity to study the movement of the clouds, while the airy figures are barely discernable in the space.
