KOGEVINAS Lykourgos (1887-1940) “Acropolis”

Kogevinas` depictions of ancient monuments directly or indirectly evoked the engravings and painting made by European travelers. `Acropolis` displays the artist`s interests in the direction of and influences on landscape painting that he received from the Post-Impressionists whom he met during his frequent trips to Paris. He combines the theatrical anti-realist lighting of the monument with the profundity of its cultural burden, concretizing memory through a symbolic use of an eternal golden light.
